Fresh Market Update: Week Ending 12 July

Fresh Market Update: Week Ending 12 July

Fresh produce moves quickly with the weather, seasons and growing regions, and this week has brought some great value buys, a few supply changes, and some standout new-season arrivals across Earth Markets.

Here is what to look out for in store this week.

Local Iceberg Lettuce Supply Has Slowed

Cooler daytime temperatures and a lack of sunshine have slowed local Iceberg Lettuce harvesting out of Gatton, with around 500,000 heads pushed back by at least a week. This has kept prices higher for a little longer than expected, but pricing should ease once volume resumes.

Cauliflower Is Great Value

Cauliflower has been in abundance this week and is selling at only $2.99 each. This local variety is slightly smaller than some earlier winter crops, but it presents beautifully and eats exceptionally well.

It is a great week to add cauliflower to roasts, soups, tray bakes, salads, cauliflower cheese or simple veggie sides.

Bundaberg Snow Peas Have Started

Bundaberg Snow Peas have commenced, with 1kg bags now available for $8.99. After months of higher pricing on southern crops, these local bags are well-priced and early indications are showing very good quality from Bundaberg this year.

They are perfect for stir-fries, lunch prep, noodle dishes or quick vegetable sides.

Broccoli Remains Short and Expensive

Broccoli is expected to remain expensive and short in supply over the next two to three weeks. There is currently very little good-quality local product available, while premium Victorian stock is limited and highly priced. Baby Broccoli has also started to tighten as customers look for alternatives to expensive broccoli heads.

Corn Has Dropped Again

Corn has dropped further in price, with 4 large cobs for $3 this weekend. Supply has shifted further north, with all volume now coming from Bowen.

This is a great time to pick up corn for weekend meals, lunchboxes, salads, barbecues and easy family dinners.

Blueberries Are Back in Better Supply

Blueberry supply has improved this week from the Coffs Harbour region. Quality is first class, with firm, sweet berries, and prices have dropped significantly. This week, blueberries are selling at 2 punnets for $7.

Perfect for lunchboxes, breakfast bowls, baking, smoothies or school snacks.

Tangelos Have Started

Tangelos have started this week, with Earth Markets ranging the Venus brand Tangelo for its exceptional quality. Venus is a third-generation citrus grower from South Australia and is regarded as a premium citrus brand in Australia.

These are a beautiful seasonal citrus option to look out for in store.

New Baby Jazz Apples In Store

New Baby Jazz Apples are arriving in store this weekend. They are a smaller version of the Jazz apple, with amazing eating quality, and they are a perfect lunchbox option for back to school next week. You will find them in 500g tubs for $3.99.

Strawberry Supply Has Tightened

Strawberry supply has tightened as the week has progressed, but as we move further into the local Queensland season, pricing should ease over the next couple of weeks. Our premium 250g punnets remain the best option for eating quality.
