What better way to close the Tastes of Gold Coast Festival and begin the school holidays than Making Food Fun at the Palm Beach Parklands?
Pirate Park will host trained dietician Kate Wengier who will use fresh produce from The Pines Shopping Centre’s Earth Markets on Sunday.
Festival spokesman Geoff Masters said children would learn healthy handwashing and nutrition tips while preparing a colourful snack to enjoy after their session.
“There will be a focus on fresh regional produce which is all being supplied by the Earth Markets,” Mr Masters said.
“Kate has been working direct with management at the Earth Markets to devise the recipes for the event.
Sessions are limited and bookings are essential so parents should book early to avoid disappointment”
Earth Markets’ manager Jamie Spence said the shop was asked to provide the produce.
“The whole thing is about getting kids to eat healthy,” Mr Spence said.
“The word vegetable probably freaks kids out, but there’s more creative ways of feeding them fruit and vegetables these days.
“The trick is to feed them the fruits and vegetables they actually want to eat, which I believe is a big part of what the Tastes of Gold Coast is all about.”
Part of many peoples’ healthy eating problems is the time it takes to eat properly and the myriad of unhealthy options available.
“There’s so much processed stuff,” Mr Spence said.
